Look into the Future: GBA to Cube Connectivity

00-08-17 - Zach

"…clearly you're going to see an interface between the Game Boy Advance and Dolphin that is more than happenstance and doesn't require a mechanical device, and probably uses the modem and our online capabilities. And having those two pieces of gear grow software -- growing software on one, trading data, raising the level of performance, will make Dolphin a very different kind of dedicated gaming machine. "

-Peter Main

With these words Peter Main has unleashed an incredible array of possibilities for the newly named Nintendo Cube and the GBA. While conventional uses, such as using the GBA to pick football plays so that your opponent will not see what you are doing, can be found on most sites, I would like to suggest more interesting ways in which this opens up a new realm of game play features.

Now imagine if you will an RPG for the Cube… An excellent game in it’s own right, it could feature a GBA counterpart with a different story line. This would be nothing special except for the fact that these games connect, and characters from both games may not only interact with each other, but also unlock previously unseen elements within both games. While nothing to this effect has been announced (yet), it is nonetheless tantalizing to imagine the possibilities.

I’m not a huge Pokemon fan myself, but the countless obsessed people could go crazy with a GBA hook up to Cube. A standard Pokemon game could be had, but with a Cube counterpart Pokemon could be trained for battle before being transferred to the Cube game. One could play one facet of the game on the road, and upon arriving at home use that time well spent to improve the quality of the Cube game already waiting. The possibilities are endless.

This article may seem lacking, but that is only because we needed filler before SpaceWorld. After the show, we may all look back and see how naive my view is, because Nintendo is sure to blow us all away. Hopefully, I have only touched the tip of what is to come in the days ahead, and this speculation will be but a mere suggestion of what Nintendo has in store for us.
