Miyamoto
Speaks
00-08-26
- Dave - The following quotes are all from an article
at thegia.com, comentary from me.
"He
also shot down the idea of another Mario All Stars-type collection of
classics, saying that Nintendo would rather concentrate on making new
games than reworking old ones."
Dave:
That's really too bad...I was hoping for compilation carts for
GBA...anyone else? Of course, if you want to be optimistic, they
were asking about the reusal of old characters for new games, and he maybe
have meant it won't happen on the Cube...but still.
"the
next game mentioned was the ill-fated Mother 3, or Earthbound 64. Miyamoto
stated that the game had in fact been cancelled, saying that the team was
simply needed on other projects. While Nintendo would like to see the
remnents of the game get put to use in one way or another, it is unlikely
that they will see the light of day in the Mother series. He also said
that negotiations are going on right now with the original creator of
Mother to see if some sort of licensing could be worked out so that the
project could be salvaged in some way."
Dave:
While not completely GBA related, lots of GBA fans want a return of the
Mother series. If Nintendo works the license deal right, we could
see Mother (Earthbound Zero) or Mother 2 (Earthbound (SNES)) for the
GBA...maybe.
"He
also wants to make the look of his games more mature, with the characters
possessing less "childish traits," such as the look of Luigi in
the demos shown at the GameCube unveiling."
Dave:
This will most likely carry over to any GBA projects that Miyamoto-san is
a part of, and many that he isn't. "A
few questions were asked about Miyamoto's actual role at Nintendo, and
what his teams were up to at the moment. He replied that while he did less
hands-on creating than in the past, he had more skilled creators under
him, and was able to give them a lot more freedom to do what they thought
was best. He still supervises many projects, but admitted that a lot of
his time is spent filling out paperwork. His teams, though, are hard at
work, with 30% of their current output being on the GameBoy Advance and
the GameCube. He himself was just beginning to look at development for the
GameBoy Advance, with his prior focus being the GameCube."
Dave:
Paperwork? That's really unfortunate...but hopefully it's paperwork
that will help games, and not like budget stuff. But....he's
starting to look at GBA! Sweet! Dave:
In conclusion, we've definitely got some stuff to look forward to.

brilliant Miyamoto really is.
